Everpearl is an adventurous tale of loss, obsessive love and self determination. When Becca Riggs, an average Midwestern girl, working as a park ranger, is involved in a freak boating accident, she finds herself on the shores of another realm. A harrowing world of timeless beauty, matched by unequaled violence and brutal repression, perpetuated by an evil ruler against the gentle people of Everpearl. Becca soon finds that she is the center of attention and is quickly befriended by a handsome, but soft spoken man named Abel and a sweet humble boy named Joah, who help to steer her away from the dangerous pitfalls of Everpearls archaic customs.
Becca is found on the beach by a group of men and Abel, the best looking man she has ever seen and Joah, a boy that she takes under her wing like a little brother. She is summoned to the village of Dawns Retreat, where the vile king, Phoenix tries to take possession of her. Dawns Retreat is under the domination of Phoenix and his sons. Here she also meets Meno, a man who is aggressively attracted to her and is Abel’s greatest challenge for Becca’s attention. Becca learns to deal with each one of them, either by matching wits, the power of persuasion and sometimes improvising with her own body. She does have concerns about her own behavior. She easily succumbs to the use of violent actions to get her own way. If that doesn’t work she is not too shy to use her own seductive charm and sex as a tool to get what she needs.

Full disclosure: I did not finish this book.

The story begins with an information dump overloaded with passive voice. The writing switches between past and present tense, often within the same sentence. It suffers from irregular formatting, improper capitalization, missing commas, and the occasional incorrect application of an apostrophe. The heroine makes no attempt to understand the culture in which she has landed, making judgments and behaving as though she knows better than everyone the right way to do things. The lackluster, romantic scenes don't salvage the story either.

This story has potential, but the execution leaves much to be desired. A good editor to strengthen the plotting and writing would spur a revision that could vastly improve this book.

EVERPEARL edition by RAINE PARSONS Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I thought this book had a few errors but the story went well. I think it's a good start for this author.
I really enjoyed this book. The book takes you on a wild adventure to Everpearl. You just want to continue reading. I loved the characters. I think everyone who reads this book will find it as enjoyable as I did.
Holy Moly what an adventure. Loved the whole plot. perfect amount of adventure, drama and some erotic moments. I could see this book being turned into a movie. and let me tell you i would LOVE to see who plays Abel. Definitely looking forward to another adventure with Becca, Abel and Meno. Job Well Done Raine!!!!!!!
This new book by Raine Parsons is a real page turner. Once I started I could not put the book down. The characters have you cheering for them and at times crying with them. The main gal Becca with her new friends Abel and Joah take you on a great adventure through a new realm. I was completely entertained. This book is very thought provoking making you really think things through. After finishing the book I have so many questions that hopefully will be answered in the next book.
I really liked this story. The juxtaposition of the male and female roles were very interesting. The ending, however, could have been better. The story ended as if there would be a sequel but haven't seen it yet.
Looking deeper into the story, we have an amazing adventure. Becca has no idea what's in store for her. Early novels are sometimes awkward, but I have read Parsons' more recent works, and have enjoyed watching the evolution of a talented storyteller. Good read!
First off Format the damn book. Entire sections of the book was indented, Then all of a sudden nothing was indented. Chapters starts would be at odd locations. Now the characters. Becca was at one moment a strong character, then the next she was terrified of her own shadow. She ignored resources that could help her, forgets about the people who helped her in the beginning, cries over the right choices, is scared of her own shadow, but supposed to be strong willed.

I loved the concept of the story, it had so much potential for a great story, one that would be talked about for a very long time. The author let it down though. It was like she came up with the idea and just started writing without having any idea of where to take the story. Then when you get to the end, it feels like she just got tired of writing it and wanted to move on. I wish she would go back, take the idea she had, take notes from the original story and re-write the whole thing. It is an incredible idea one worthy of a reading, if written with more follow through.
